Common web design myths

We’re setting the record straight and busting 10 common web design myths. We understand the financial industry is where you are an expert and most comfortable, not in web design, so by delving into these myths we hope you will be more informed.
1. The look of my website is the most crucial
No one is saying that the look doesn’t matter, we’re just saying that there’s more to web design than the appearance of a website. Web design takes into account the functional aspects and content within the website.
2. I’ll use whatever nice images on my website
Having a strategy for your website’s visual is important, it should be relevant and coordinate with your brand identity.
3. Social media buttons aren’t necessary
Having social media buttons to allow users to share from your website not only increases the chances for more followers but may actually help with your search engine ranking.
4. The copy for my website isn’t that important
Copy not only matters as the literal words on your web page but it affects the web design. In an ideal world, designers would be able to work with a specific amount of copy for each section to go with their design but this isn’t always the case.
5. Updating my website isn’t required
Web design trends are ever-changing, for example, previously you wouldn’t have said being mobile friendly was necessary but now everyone is glued to their devices! To stay at the top of your game, update your website every so often.
6. More features are better
Trying to answer all your customer’s problems on your website isn’t necessarily the best approach. The more features you have, the more messy and chaotic your website will become to the user.
7. The most critical page is my homepage
Having a powerful homepage is all great but it isn’t always the most critical. A lot of customers that come from search engines are most likely to land on a product or service page first so you want these to be impactful too.
8. My website doesn’t need to responsive
With so many devices out there nowadays, your users aren’t only browsing through their desktop. Your website will look different when someone views it through a mobile or tablet, make sure they can navigate seamlessly.
9. Adding lots of content is better
Too much content can deter users, don’t overcrowd your website with unnecessary content. Or, if you need it all a web designer will be able to implement it into your website without the cluttered feel.
10. When the website is live, I don’t need to do anything
Once your website has gone live, don’t abandon it. Keep it up to date by reviewing and editing the content and imagery when needed. Also, don’t forget about your news or blog section, get posting regular articles.
